1930s Qipao

This decade was the golden age of the cheongsam (qipao), which became slimmer and more skintight in order to acomodate new activities from the Western lifestyle (such as swimming, dancing and golf). In 1933, a slit was added on the left side, along with a 17cm-long (approx. 6.69 inches) slit in the cuffs.

High heels would be worn, also.

Men's Fashion[]

Men generally wore a gown and over-jacket. Civil servants wore a tunic suit called a Zhongshan Zhuang, which eventually became the standard male dress.
