Movies Edit

The Assamese film industry developed in the 1930s, concurrently with the development of the Bengali film industry. [1]

The first Assamese film ever released was Joymati by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala in 1935, based on a historical 17th century princess. The film is also noted for founding Assamese talkies, using modern techniques instead of traditional theater-style acting, and for being a historical film at a time when mythological films were the norm.
